Scottie Scheffler voiced his dissatisfaction with the course conditions at the Masters tournament after finishing just one shot behind Rory McIlroy, the eventual champion. Despite trailing McIlroy by 12 shots halfway through the competition, Scheffler bounced back with impressive rounds of 65 and 68 over the weekend. However, his second-round score of 74 proved to be a hindrance in catching up to McIlroy, who secured his sixth major title.

Scheffler, a two-time Masters winner at 29, expressed his frustration with the course conditions that softened as the tournament progressed. He mentioned that the disparity in firmness between Thursday and Friday affected his performance. The golfer highlighted the unpredictability of outdoor sports and how changing conditions can impact gameplay.

Reflecting on his experience, Scheffler pointed out that the course adjustments, especially to the greens, hindered his chances of claiming a third Masters victory. He acknowledged the strong performances by other players on Friday, leading to missed opportunities for himself. Despite the setbacks, Scheffler commended his efforts over the weekend that put him in contention.

Rory McIlroy, who ended an 11-year major title drought, secured his second consecutive victory. Following his win, McIlroy expressed gratitude to his wife Erica Stoll and their daughter Poppy for their unwavering support. He humorously mentioned how the tournament week had become a favorite for Poppy, possibly due to the Par 3 Tournament or the abundance of ice cream available in the players’ services building.
