On the anniversary of a tragic event, Sameer Rafik fondly remembers his cousin, Faizan Rafik, who lost his life in the Air India flight disaster last year. Faizan, a bright 25-year-old, brought joy to everyone he encountered, leaving a lasting impact on those around him.

In a heartfelt interview, Sameer reflects on their final moments together, cherishing their conversations and shared aspirations. Faizan, a kind soul who always wore a smile, had dreams of obtaining his driver’s license and buying his first car upon his return from a trip to India.

Sadly, Faizan was among the 260 individuals who perished in the tragic crash that shook Ahmedabad, India. Sameer, deeply affected by the loss of his brother-like cousin, treasures the memories of their daily interactions in Leicester, where Faizan was an integral part of his life.

Faizan, a dedicated worker at a local factory, was on the brink of completing his religious studies and planned to bring his wife to Leicester to support the community, especially in combating issues like drug abuse. To honor Faizan’s legacy, Sameer is establishing a charity in his name to continue the philanthropic work Faizan held dear.

Despite facing challenges in the aftermath of the disaster, including a lack of support from authorities, Sameer remains steadfast in his mission to keep Faizan’s spirit alive through acts of kindness and generosity. As he navigates the grief of losing a beloved family member, Sameer finds solace in helping others, embodying the compassionate essence of his dear cousin.
