Princess Kate made a visit to Manchester to show support for a woman who had completed her challenging cancer treatment. The Princess of Wales visited the Christie NHS Foundation Trust to emphasize the importance of holistic care in addition to clinical treatment for cancer patients. During her time at the hospital, Kate met Claire Lorente, a 30-year-old woman who was celebrating the end of her battle with breast cancer treatment.

Kate warmly embraced Claire, congratulating her on her journey and expressing her admiration. Claire, moved by the moment, shared her cancer experience with Kate. The princess offered words of comfort and support, acknowledging the challenges faced not only by patients but also by their families and loved ones.

Reflecting on her own past experience with cancer treatment in 2024, Kate empathetically connected with Claire and her family. She then interacted with Claire’s baby, praising the mother’s bravery. The touching moment culminated in Claire ringing the bell symbolizing the completion of her treatments, with Kate applauding and offering words of encouragement.

The Christie, recognized as Europe’s largest single-site cancer center and the UK’s first comprehensive cancer center, provided Kate with insights into the various therapies offered to patients. Dressed in a blue outfit with bee-themed earrings representing Manchester, Kate engaged with patients undergoing therapy, learning about their experiences and well-being.

During her visit, Kate interacted with patients receiving treatment and explored the healing power of art therapy with resident artist Patricia Mountford. She also met with gardener Phil Walker to understand the benefits of the wellbeing garden in promoting reflection and relaxation for patients and staff. Furthermore, Kate visited the Christie’s Teenage and Young Adult unit, where she learned about programs designed to support young cancer patients.

Established in 1892, The Christie is renowned for its holistic approach to cancer care, offering complementary therapies to alleviate common symptoms associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment. These therapies address issues such as stress, depression, fear, and nausea induced by anxiety. The center provides a range of services including art classes, a wellbeing garden, and spiritual support through its chaplaincy service.

Kate’s visit to Manchester followed her recent attendance at a reception with King Charles and Queen Camilla at St James’ Palace, where they celebrated Cancer Research UK’s vital work. Both Kate and Charles have encountered their own battles with cancer, with Kate undergoing chemotherapy following surgery and announcing her remission last year.

Having gradually resumed her royal duties post-remission, Kate embarked on her first international visit to Italy, focusing on initiatives supporting early childhood development. Her dedication to cancer awareness and support continues to inspire many as she shares her personal journey and advocates for holistic care for cancer patients.
