The NBA is challenging assertions presented in a recent ESPN report regarding the league’s scrutiny of Los Angeles Clippers proprietor Steve Ballmer. According to the ESPN article released on Monday, three sources claimed that the NBA did not uncover any proof indicating that Ballmer used team sponsors to compensate Kawhi Leonard covertly and evade the salary cap.

The piece insinuated that the NBA is now examining whether the Clippers’ presentation of Leonard to team sponsors breaches the league’s regulations prohibiting circumvention of the salary cap. NBA spokesperson Mike Bass disavowed the ESPN article, stating that it contains numerous inaccuracies. Bass emphasized that the outcomes of the NBA’s inquiry will be disclosed upon its conclusion.

A potential trade involving Leonard between the L.A. Clippers and the Toronto Raptors has been paused pending the league’s decision on potential penalties.
