A prominent airport in Europe has been shut down following reports of a suspected drone in close proximity to the runways. Munich Airport is currently closed, with all flights grounded, as confirmed by local news sources in Germany. The closure was initiated after the Federal Police responded to the sighting of a potential unauthorized “flying object” near the airport’s runway.
The airport came to a halt around 9 am due to a reported “suspicious observation,” leading to the suspension of all flight operations. Federal Police disclosed that an unauthorized flying object was observed in the vicinity of the runway. By 10:05 am, BILD reported that the situation was deemed safe.
A spokesperson stated that the Federal Police’s search yielded no alarming discoveries. Passengers aboard a plane were informed of the sudden airport closure before takeoff. The airport was projected to remain closed until at least 10 am, with a helicopter dispatched to locate the drone.
Multiple police officers are conducting a thorough search at Munich Airport, inspecting the premises for any evidence related to the suspected drone. Additionally, a helicopter has been deployed to aid in the search. The airport’s operational activities have been temporarily suspended due to the incident.
According to a Munich Federal Police spokesperson, the airport’s closure was prompted by reports of a ‘drone’ in the vicinity. Pilot observations of a potentially unauthorized flying object, suspected to be a drone, were reported around 9 am. Stefan Bayer, as cited by BILD, confirmed the sighting near the airport.
