A 21-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident where a vehicle veered onto a sidewalk and allegedly struck a pedestrian multiple times in Northumberland.
Law enforcement officials were alerted to a severe assault on Upper Barresdale in Alnwick around 6:40 p.m. last Friday.
Witnesses reported that a black Audi A3 deviated off the road and deliberately targeted a pedestrian before hitting them and fleeing the scene. The injured pedestrian, a man in his thirties, was rushed to the hospital with severe leg wounds and is currently receiving treatment.
Northumbria Police initiated an inquiry and apprehended a 21-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. The suspect is presently in police custody.
Detective Sergeant Adele Catlow remarked, “This incident is highly grave, resulting in significant injuries to the victim. While the investigation is in its early stages, we believe that the parties involved are acquainted with each other.”
“We have made an arrest, and our officers will continue to investigate the area and provide reassurance to the community. We urge anyone who witnessed the event or was in the vicinity at the time to come forward,” added Catlow.
