In a dramatic operation, authorities raided the residence of a man dubbed “Majorca’s Fritzl” for keeping his stepdaughter captive in a house equipped with a “punishment cellar.”

Spanish police breached the property’s wall using a ladder before swiftly entering the premises where a 51-year-old Spanish individual subjected his victim to daily sexual assaults for a five-year period, confining her in an undisclosed underground chamber. Drawing comparisons to Josef Fritzl, an Austrian perpetrator who similarly abused his daughter in a concealed basement, the Spanish offender now faces a 34-year prison term for charges including human trafficking, sexual exploitation of a minor, production of abusive material, and invasion of privacy.

During the trial, it was revealed that the victim, aged seven at the onset of the abuse, resided in dire conditions with her mother and siblings when the perpetrator, identified as JLL, promised them a better life. Portraying himself as a savior, the abuser gained the family’s trust, particularly captivating the young girl who had never interacted with a Caucasian person before. The court documents described how the perpetrator manipulated the child’s emotional reliance on him, leading to a sham marriage with the victim’s mother to facilitate their move to Spain.

Upon relocating to Europe in late 2019, the offender immediately separated the mother and daughter, relocating the girl to a remote estate in central Majorca where he coerced her into signing fabricated agreements stipulating sexual favors and domestic chores on a daily basis. Exploiting the girl’s compliance, he falsely promised to reunite her with her younger siblings upon completion of the agreed tasks. The victim endured relentless abuse until she reached 17 years of age, enduring assaults even while crying or asleep.

The heinous acts came to light in March 2024 when the victim disclosed her traumatic experiences to her mother. The judges remarked on the profound impact of the abuse on the victim’s psychological and social well-being, emphasizing the enduring consequences likely to persist throughout her life. Denying the accusations, JLL expressed intentions of rescuing the girl from her challenging circumstances, with the court’s decision subject to potential appeals.
