Budget supermarket Lidl is inviting the public to help discover locations for potential new stores across the UK. The list includes over 1,000 areas from Scotland to Cornwall, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Despite having its own property teams and agents, Lidl seeks assistance from shoppers.
As an incentive, Lidl offers a finder’s fee for identifying new sites leading to store development. The fee is either 1.5% of the freehold purchase price or 10% of the first year’s leasehold rent. In recent reports, a finder’s fee could have amounted to £22,500 for identifying a £1.5 million site.
Lidl refrained from disclosing specifics on individuals receiving the finder’s fee due to commercial sensitivity. While Lidl has numerous potential store sites, immediate openings are unlikely. With over 1,000 UK stores, Lidl plans to expand by adding more than 50 stores in the next year, part of a £600 million expansion.
The supermarket’s brochure outlines potential new store locations in various regions across the UK. Richard Taylor, Lidl GB’s chief real estate officer, emphasized the commitment to expanding and providing quality products, jobs, and support to communities. Lidl aims to bring affordable products, job opportunities, and local support to communities amid uncertain times.
