US President Donald Trump faced a security threat when gunshots caused panic at the White House correspondents’ dinner. The incident led to the evacuation of Trump and his wife Melania from the Washington Hilton event. Trump has encountered various assassination attempts throughout his tenure in office, including incidents during his first term and reelection campaign.
During the recent dinner, chaos erupted as gunfire forced the evacuation of Trump, Melania, Vice President JD Vance, and Cabinet members. Guests took cover under tables as the US Secret Service responded to the situation. Luckily, a Secret Service agent wearing a bulletproof vest narrowly escaped being shot at close range.
The suspect behind the shooting was identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California. Reports indicated that Allen had entered the venue posing as a guest and was armed with multiple weapons, including a shotgun, handgun, and knives.
One significant assassination attempt on Trump occurred during a rally in Pennsylvania in July 2024. Thomas Crooks, a 20-year-old, fired shots at Trump, injuring him in the upper right ear. Crooks also fatally shot an audience member and wounded two others before being swiftly neutralized by the Secret Service.
Despite the dangers he has faced, Trump continued to engage in public appearances post-attack. The incident in Pennsylvania marked a notable security lapse for the Secret Service, reminiscent of the 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan at the same venue.
In a separate incident, Ryan Wesley Routh attempted an attack on Trump while the President was at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida. Routh, armed with an SKS rifle, was thwarted by a Secret Service agent who fired at him, leading to his capture. The encounter resulted in a serious car crash, injuring a young girl.
Notably, Trump was also targeted in a ricin poisoning attempt in 2018, highlighting the persistent security threats he has faced. Various individuals have tried to harm Trump, underscoring the challenges of protecting high-profile figures like the President.
