One of Robert Bush’s victims, as reported by the Mirror, shared how the funeral director transitioned rapidly from being seen as a “consummate professional” to being likened to “Frankenstein.”

Karen Dry, speaking in a short film detailing Bush’s deceitful actions, expressed her hope for justice to be served against him for his crimes. She mentioned her uncertainty about whether she actually possesses her parents’ ashes.

Bush is currently facing sentencing at Hull Crown Court for over 65 offenses committed over a span of 12 years, impacting numerous victims and their bereaved families.

In the video interview, Ms. Dry, from Cottingham, Hull, described Bush as charming and patient, initially appearing as a professional figure with a pleasant demeanor. However, she revealed that his true nature was deceptive, likening him to a wolf in sheep’s clothing. She emphasized the challenge of verifying ashes through DNA testing and highlighted the widespread impact of his actions on numerous families.

Another individual, Lucy Ness, a young woman who lost her baby during the pandemic, shared her distress upon discovering that she had been given animal remains by Bush. Despite his initial helpful and pleasant demeanor over the phone, she later learned that the ashes she received did not belong to her unborn child, causing her to experience renewed trauma.

Kevin Moxon, the proprietor of Moxon’s Funeral Directors in the city, disclosed disturbing findings following a raid on Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in March 2024. He described encountering bodies in various stages of decay, with some remains left unattended for extended periods.

Bush’s criminal activities came to light when police discovered unidentified ashes in deteriorating boxes at the Hessle Road premises more than two years ago. He has since pleaded guilty to 67 offenses, including preventing lawful burials, fraud, fraudulent trading, and theft.

During his arrest, Bush compared his treatment by Humberside Police to that of the Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara. Investigations revealed the mishandling of remains and fraudulent practices, with Bush spending substantial sums on personal expenses while deceiving grieving families.

His sentencing hearing, scheduled to span five days with over 100 victim impact statements expected, will determine the consequences of his actions. The court was informed of the misappropriation of funds totaling millions and the discrepancies in reported financial data for Legacy and Bush’s personal accounts.

The court proceedings shed light on the financial irregularities and deception carried out by Bush between 2017 and 2024, emphasizing the significant sums transferred into his personal accounts. The judge is anticipated to review extensive evidence and statements before reaching a verdict on Bush’s crimes.
