A tragic incident on holiday resulted in the death of a six-month-old infant and her parents, while their seven-year-old daughter fights for her life after a fatal car crash. Lucia Sîrbu, 28, and Constantin Sîrbu, 35, lost their lives along with their baby when their vehicle collided head-on with a lorry tanker in Greece’s Halkidiki peninsula. The family from Strășeni, Moldova, was en route to a beach when the devastating accident occurred.
Lucia and the infant passed away at the crash site, while Constantin, who was extricated from the wreckage, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Polygyros after extensive medical efforts. Their seven-year-old daughter sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Thessaloniki, where she remains in critical condition. Relatives remembered the couple as caring, diligent individuals.
In response to the tragedy, local mayor Valentina Casian initiated a plea for donations to facilitate the repatriation of the deceased family members. The mayor urged community members to support the grieving family through contributions to designated donation accounts.
Authorities in Greece are investigating the circumstances leading to the collision, which left the lorry driver unharmed. Emergency responders arrived at the scene following the incident report on July 15, deploying specialized equipment to rescue the victims trapped in their vehicle. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova confirmed the involvement of four Moldovan nationals in the accident and assured ongoing consular assistance for their repatriation.
