Explosive Crash at Portland Sports Club Claims One Life

One individual has been confirmed dead following an incident where a vehicle carrying explosives crashed into a sports club. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, Oregon today after the vehicle collided with the club and caught fire. Law enforcement officials established that the driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, perished in the tragic collision.

According to Portland Police, the vehicle ignited upon impact with the building, and authorities discovered explosive devices inside the car alongside the deceased individual. The Mirror US reported the incident. Portland Police provided details on their official website, stating that on May 2, 2026, at 2:49 a.m., Portland Fire & Rescue received a report of a vehicle crashing through the front entrance of the Multnomah Athletic Club located at 1849 Southwest Salmon Street, subsequently catching fire. After extinguishing the fire, responders found one person deceased inside the vehicle.

The Explosive Disposal Unit of the Portland Police responded to the scene following the discovery of an explosive device in the vehicle. The unit is actively involved in the investigation and assessing the area for further evidence.

In response to the incident, Southwest 18th Avenue is currently shut down between Southwest Taylor Street and Southwest Madison Street, while Southwest 20th Avenue is closed between Southwest Morrison Street and Southwest Madison Street. Authorities have advised the public to avoid the area as the investigation, which also involves the FBI Portland, progresses.

The Multnomah Athletic Club posted on its Facebook page that it will remain closed until further notice due to the serious incident.
