A buffalo with a unique blonde hairdo, affectionately dubbed “Donald Trump,” was saved from being sacrificed for Eid festivities in Bangladesh after gaining widespread attention. Government officials intervened and prevented the albino buffalo from being slaughtered due to safety concerns and heightened public interest. The buffalo, named after the US President for its striking appearance, was relocated to the national zoo in Dhaka following a directive from Home Minister Salabuddin Ahmed.
The decision to spare the buffalo was made at the last minute due to security worries and the exceptional public fascination with the animal, which had become a viral sensation online. Crowds flocked to see the buffalo, attracted by its distinctive blond tuft, with visitors traveling long distances for a glimpse. The owner revealed that the buffalo was playfully named after Donald Trump due to its resemblance to the US leader, emphasizing the animal’s calm demeanor.
Albino buffalos are a rarity in Bangladesh, where most buffalos are dark-colored. The albino buffalo’s unusual coloring made it a standout during the Eid livestock season in the country. While Bangladesh is known for its high number of animal sacrifices during Eid al-Adha, this year has seen a decrease in sacrifices due to elevated livestock prices, impacting low-income families’ ability to participate in the tradition.
The surge in livestock prices has led to a decline in Eid sacrifices, with many lower-income families opting out of purchasing meat due to the rising cost of living. This economic strain has made meat options less affordable for many households in Bangladesh, contributing to the decrease in Eid sacrifices this year.
