A tragic incident unfolded as a doctor met her untimely demise in a horse riding accident in front of her young daughter. Donatella Mecchia, a mother of two, sustained a fatal head injury after being thrown from her horse during a lesson at a local equestrian center. Despite being rushed to Niguarda Hospital’s intensive care neurological unit in Milan, Italy, on the morning of Friday, June 5, the efforts to save the respected doctor were in vain, and she passed away shortly before 10 am.
Her body was later moved to the Meda Funeral Home in Corbetta, near Milan, where a farewell ceremony took place. The tragic loss deeply affected her husband, Marco Di Carlo, daughters Aurora and Beatrice, siblings Cristina and Alessandro, as well as her parents. Family members fondly remembered Donatella as a strong and generous woman who held a deep love for her family.
Originally from San Vito al Tagliamento but residing in the Milan area, Donatella was a medical graduate who specialized in pathological anatomy at the University of Milan. She had held senior clinical and research positions and was notably known as a highly-regarded physician specializing in aesthetic medicine.
Her colleagues paid tribute to her as a dedicated teacher with a warm personality, describing her contagious sympathy and passion for life as unforgettable traits. The Italian Society of Aesthetic Medicine honored her as a highly esteemed professional in the field.
In a final act of kindness, Donatella generously donated her organs, providing a new chance at life for five individuals. The Mayor of Corbetta, Marco Ballarini, expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the city, acknowledging Donatella’s contribution to the community and her selfless act of organ donation.
