According to the GFS weather model, maximum temperatures are expected to reach 34C in southern England on Wednesday next week, spanning from Gloucestershire to Surrey. South Wales could see temperatures hitting 31C, while the Midlands may experience highs of up to 33C.
The model predicts that temperatures could soar to 36C across western and southern England on Thursday next week, with temperatures of 33C in Yorkshire and 28C in southern Scotland.
By Friday next week, western and south-east England could witness highs of at least 37C. The model suggests that 36C temperatures could be widespread in central and southern England.
Looking ahead to Saturday next week, potential highs include 36C in East Anglia, 33C in Yorkshire, 36C in the south-east, and 33-34C in the Midlands. This prolonged period of high temperatures would constitute another official heatwave lasting four days.
Temperature anomaly maps for the upcoming week show the UK shaded in deep red, indicating temperatures significantly above the seasonal average. The GFS model indicates that temperatures may exceed 37C in eight counties across England.
The Met Office anticipates that conditions may turn ‘very warm or hot’ later this month, with the possibility of ‘thundery interludes.’ The forecast for August 9 to 18 suggests that high pressure could dominate the north or northwest of the UK, with lower pressure in the south or east. Temperatures are expected to remain above average, particularly in the south, possibly reaching very warm or hot levels.
