Donald Trump criticized his administration after it was revealed that the contractors he hand-picked for the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool refurbishment made errors, rather than the work being sabotaged by vandals as he previously claimed. The Justice Department withdrew charges against a former Olympian accused of damaging the pool intentionally.
Despite this, Trump publicly disagreed with the prosecutor, Jeanine Pirro, on social media platform Truth Social, insisting that the pool damage was primarily due to vandalism, even though contractor issues may have played a role. In a separate incident, Trump abandoned a $3 billion plan to renovate the landmark and opted for his own contractors to apply industrial swimming pool sealant in a distinct “American Flag Blue” color.
Following a delay in completion and a significant cost overrun, the pool quickly developed algae and the sealant began peeling off. Trump continued to blame vandals for the damage, alleging a deliberate act of sabotage. However, the administration later acknowledged that the damage was a result of faulty installation by the contractor and rushed completion due to the upcoming America 250 celebration.
Recent court filings revealed that the contractor’s flawed installation was the root cause of the pool damage, contrary to the initial vandalism claims. The incident occurred just before the America 250 celebration and coincided with Trump’s UFC Birthday Party event near the reflecting pool. This new information prompted a shift in perspective from the prosecutors, highlighting the importance of thorough investigation and accurate attribution of responsibility.
