A significant blaze has erupted at another popular location in the UK, prompting authorities to advise the public to steer clear of the vicinity. Firefighters dispatched eight fire engines to the Barr Beacon nature reserve in Great Barr, Walsall, to combat the flames today. Police officers were stationed at three entrances to the reserve, blocking access as smoke billowed into the sky.
According to a statement from West Midlands Fire Service, multiple crews are on-site at Barr Beacon, responding to a sizeable grassland fire. The public is urged to avoid the area if possible.
Reports indicate that Beacon Road has been shut down in both directions due to the fire, affecting traffic flow between B4151 Beacon Hill and Bridle Lane. Barr Beacon is renowned for being one of the highest points in the West Midlands, offering breathtaking views of Birmingham.
In addition to the Barr Beacon incident, firefighters are also dealing with another grassland fire at Perry Avenue. People are advised to stay away from Perry Hall Playing Fields where the blaze occurred, with six firefighting crews dispatched to the scene.
Meanwhile, a third fire is currently blazing at Kingfisher Park in Hay Mills, east Birmingham, with visible smoke plumes and intense flames. The fire reportedly started around 4pm.
The UK has seen a surge in open fires in recent weeks due to prolonged hot weather and minimal rainfall. Seven regions in England, including London, East Anglia, Hertfordshire, and West Midlands, have been classified as experiencing drought conditions by the Government. The entirety of Wales is also facing drought.
