A massive fire near Bordeaux Airport led to the cancellation of flights, resulting in the tragic deaths of two firefighters who were battling the blaze. The fire started at a building on Avenue Roland Garros close to the airport’s car park in the afternoon, rapidly spreading over approximately one hectare of land.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed the fatalities of the two firefighters while they were trying to extinguish the fire. Flights from the airport are gradually resuming, but passengers are advised to verify their flight status before heading to the airport.

Firefighters are still present at the scene as the fire continues to emit dense black smoke into the sky. French President Emmanuel Macron honored the fallen firefighters in a statement, expressing condolences to their families, loved ones, and the firefighting community.

Laurent Nuñez also praised the courage and dedication of the firefighters in protecting the people of France. The country has been facing severe challenges due to a deadly heatwave, resulting in wildfires, a public health emergency, and a significant number of casualties.
