The sibling of a woman who was fatally stabbed while next to her spouse and infant has shared his family’s profound sorrow.
Residing thousands of miles away in India, her family expressed gratitude for the memorials in west London, providing solace as they await the repatriation of Kirandeep Kaur’s remains. The 24-year-old was tragically killed at her residence on Uxbridge Road in Hayes during the early hours of July 12.
Communicating through an interpreter from their residence in Punjab, her elder brother Paljinder Singh conveyed how the community coming together in honor of Kirandeep’s memory has been a source of comfort amid their mourning. He lamented, “Had we foreseen the tragedy, we would have never let her depart.”
The family is now eager for Kirandeep’s body to return to India, granting them a final opportunity to bid farewell. Singh expressed, “Though I will never speak to her over the phone again, I yearn to gaze upon her one last time.”
Having moved to the UK two years ago to pursue studies at Buckinghamshire New University, the young woman later secured employment at a grocery store after plans to settle in Canada were abandoned. Her family, based in Tarn Taran, Punjab, never anticipated London would become her permanent abode.
Reflecting through a translator, Singh shared, “As she departed just two years ago, we never fathomed she wouldn’t return.” He added, “She exuded kindness. Anyone in the village would attest to that. She harbored no ill will and was always willing to assist others. Her presence brought joy, but now, normalcy seems unattainable. Her memory will endure forever.”
Following her untimely demise, a series of processions and vigils transpired across west London, uniting community members to honor the graduate and stand in solidarity with her kin.
Despite the physical distance, Singh acknowledged that the outpouring of support had provided solace to the family. He remarked, “We deeply appreciate the vigils. The community rallied together to advocate for justice. Hopefully, other families will be spared from such tragedy.”
Daniel Sean James, a resident of west London, faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and possession of a bladed weapon. Prosecutors allege that he assaulted Kirandeep within her residence before fleeing through a window and sustaining injuries. Subsequently apprehended by law enforcement nearby.
James made a virtual appearance at the Old Bailey from Wormwood Scrubs, where Judge Nigel Lickley KC remanded him in custody. His plea hearing is scheduled for October 1.
