Despite a slight cooling trend expected this weekend, weather experts are pointing to the likelihood of another upcoming heatwave next week, according to the latest weather forecasts.
The Met Office predicts a decrease in temperatures to around 28C in the south and 24C in the north for tomorrow, with peak temperatures on Sunday anticipated to reach approximately 26C in southern areas and 24C in the northern regions.
This shift in weather conditions will mark the end of a 13-day streak of continuous days with temperatures exceeding 30C, potentially falling below the established heatwave threshold and concluding the UK’s third heatwave of 2026.
An official heatwave is declared after three consecutive days of temperatures surpassing the heatwave threshold, which ranges from 28C in the south-east to 25C in regions further away from the south-east.
Looking ahead, the GFS weather model indicates the possibility of a fourth heatwave looming, with temperatures potentially soaring to 30C or 31C in western parts next Friday and reaching up to 29C in Yorkshire.
Projections for the following Saturday show potential highs of 33C in southern England, with neighboring areas in Wales also expected to reach 29C or 30C. Meanwhile, the Midlands and East Anglia could experience temperatures as high as 32C.
Sunday is anticipated to be the warmest day of the upcoming week, with the GFS model indicating potential highs of 35C or 36C across southern and central England, stretching from Gloucestershire to East Anglia, while Wales and northern England could see temperatures of 33C or 34C.
The trend of warm weather is expected to continue into the following Monday, with data suggesting highs of 33C in eastern England and South Yorkshire and a possible peak of 31C in the north-west.
Temperature anomaly maps indicate that the UK, particularly England and Wales, are likely to experience temperatures well above the seasonal average during this period.
According to the GFS weather model, as many as 16 counties in England could see temperatures exceeding 35C next week.
The Met Office expects slightly milder conditions for tomorrow compared to the recent days, with generally fine weather, occasional cloud cover, and the possibility of isolated showers that may become thundery.
As for Sunday, temperatures are forecasted to be close to the seasonal norm, with most areas expected to remain dry, although some patchy rain may occur in the northern regions. The Met Office foresees temperatures rising above the seasonal norm once more in the upcoming week.
