Forecasters are anticipating a drop in temperatures over the upcoming weekend as the UK’s third heatwave of 2026 begins to ease. However, weather models suggest that it won’t be long before temperatures climb back into the mid to high-30s once again.

The Met Office is predicting that peak temperatures will hover around 30C or 31C until Saturday, followed by a significant drop on Sunday with highs of 25C expected in southern regions and 22C in the north.

According to the Met Office, the weather will remain dry and settled over the weekend, although cloud cover is expected to increase. Despite temperatures returning to normal levels, conditions are expected to feel pleasant in the sunshine.

The latest GFS weather model indicates a potential surge in temperatures reaching as high as 36C the following weekend. On July 25, highs of 34C and 35C are projected in western England, with 33C in Wales, 34C in the Midlands, and 34C in the south-east.

On July 26, the data suggests temperatures could hit 36C in eastern England, with highs of 34C to 35C extending as far north as South Yorkshire.

Temperature anomaly maps for that weekend show areas of the UK shaded in orange and red, indicating temperatures are expected to soar above the seasonal average.

The GFS model forecasts that nine counties in England could experience temperatures of 35C or higher later in the month.

The Met Office also anticipates above-average temperatures towards the end of July, with an increased likelihood of thunderstorms.

Looking ahead to July 19 to July 28, the Met Office’s forecast suggests that the influence of high pressure may diminish, leading to a greater chance of rain, showers, or thunderstorms compared to earlier in the month. Overall, temperatures are expected to remain above average during this period.
