The UK is expected to see a drop in temperatures towards the end of the week as the third heatwave of 2026 comes to a close. This year has witnessed three scorching spells, resulting in record-breaking temperatures and a rise in fires and health issues. However, forecasters anticipate relief in the coming days.
According to the latest weather forecast from the Met Office, meteorologist Aidan McGivern explains that a shift in high pressure will lead to a decrease in peak temperatures over the weekend. While temperatures will remain above average, they are expected to gradually cool off by Sunday.
The highest temperatures this weekend are forecasted to reach the mid to high-20s, with Wales and the south-west experiencing warmer weather compared to the east and north regions. The Met Office predicts highs of 29C in the south and 24C in the north on Saturday, with temperatures dropping to 25C and 22C respectively on Sunday.
BBC weather forecasters also project a decrease in temperatures towards the end of the week, with a possibility of scattered rain in some areas. The BBC forecast indicates that Friday will be cooler with variable cloud cover, while Saturday may bring more clouds, especially in northern and eastern parts. Sunday is expected to be mostly dry with variable cloudiness and a chance of isolated showers in western England.
