Ann Widdecombe’s cherished pet cat has been located safe and sound after fears for its well-being arose following the tragic incident at the former politician’s residence in Haytor, Devon. Widdecombe, aged 78, passed away last week in what authorities suspect was a targeted assault at her secluded home where she resided with her feline companions. Counter Terror Police, now leading the investigation, reported ongoing inquiries subsequent to apprehending a 28-year-old individual from Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
While awaiting further progress in the investigation, it has been disclosed that Ann Widdecombe’s cat has been found in good health. Journalist Peter Cardwell shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) this morning, revealing that Aloysius, the late politician’s cat, was located safe and well. Cardwell mentioned that the ginger cat was swiftly removed from the premises following Widdecombe’s demise.
According to information received from Cloud9 Management, Aloysius is safe, receiving proper care, and the family will determine long-term arrangements for the cat. Ann had a deep affection for cats and featured Aloysius in a broadcast with Jeremy Vine, expressing concerns for the cat’s safety amid plans to increase bird of prey numbers in the UK.
Known for her love of feline companions, Widdecombe previously mentioned that her home felt incomplete without cats. She had a penchant for giving her pets unique names, stating that she believed cats should have amusing names without specific reasons behind the choices.
Counter-terror official CPT Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor confirmed the targeted nature of Widdecombe’s death, labeling it as brutal. However, he refrained from speculating on a motive, emphasizing that all possibilities were being considered. The incident is under investigation by counter-terror police, with the police chief clarifying that it has not been classified as a terrorist act.
