Lidl is set to introduce its Lidl & Go self-scanning service to an additional 37 stores in the UK. This expansion will allow customers to conveniently scan items using the Lidl Plus app on their smartphones while shopping, streamlining the checkout process by having products pre-scanned.

The rollout of Lidl & Go will be implemented gradually throughout July, making it available to shoppers in Scotland, the South East, and other parts of Southern England. The initiative follows a successful trial at seven initial stores, including Airdrie, Cardiff, Epsom, Glenrothes, Kingston, Guilford, and Eastleigh.

Chief Customer Officer at Lidl GB, Louise Weise, expressed positivity towards the initial response to Lidl & Go, noting customers’ appreciation for the control and visibility it provides over spending, and the flexibility to shop at their own pace. The upcoming wave of store introductions aims to cater to more customers, with a commitment to incorporating feedback for continuous enhancement.

In addition to the Lidl & Go expansion, Lidl has revamped its loyalty program, Lidl Plus, enabling users to earn points for their in-store purchases. Customers now accumulate one point for every pound spent, with points redeemable for free products or discounts on future purchases. The new points system, valid for two years, replaces the previous monthly spending thresholds rewards structure.

While the new loyalty system offers increased flexibility, some customers have raised concerns about the higher spending required to attain certain rewards. Lidl assures users that additional points can be earned through various promotions, such as Rewards of the Week, double points, triple points, or free points on specific products.
