A disturbing new video has captured the moment Jamie Varley defiantly confronted police, declaring he would resist them “to the day I die” when questioned about the heinous acts he committed against young Preston Davey.

Varley, a 37-year-old teacher from Blackpool, was recently convicted of sexually abusing and murdering the 13-month-old boy, whom he and his partner, sales manager John McGowan-Fazakerley, had adopted in 2023. The verdict was delivered after a trial at Preston Crown Court, where Varley, described as a “manipulator,” falsely claimed the infant had died in a bath incident.

In a video shown during the trial, Varley is seen adamantly challenging the police in an interview, asserting his innocence when accused of the crimes. The footage, released by Lancashire Police, captures Varley sitting with arms crossed as a policeman questions him, highlighting a period of distress before medical intervention for the child.

Varley vehemently denies the accusations, stating, “I haven’t done it,” when suggested by the officer that he was responsible for the death. He boldly proclaims, “You make the suggestion, and I’ll fight you to the day I die,” emphasizing his conviction that the authorities are mistaken in their allegations.

Following the trial this week, Varley was found guilty of murdering Preston, along with multiple charges including assault, child cruelty, and sexual offenses. His partner, McGowan-Fazakerley, was also convicted of related offenses, marking a tragic end to the life of the child they had adopted.

The court learned that Preston suffered extensive abuse and trauma under Varley’s care, with medical evidence revealing numerous injuries and signs of sexual assault. Despite attempts to save him, Preston tragically succumbed to his injuries, leading to a detailed investigation that uncovered the extent of the abuse he endured.

Detectives uncovered disturbing evidence, including Varley’s confessions of dark intentions towards the child and incriminating photos and videos depicting the abuse. The harrowing materials revealed a pattern of mistreatment and neglect, ultimately contributing to Preston’s untimely death.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fallows described Varley as a manipulative and deceitful individual who attempted to distort the truth surrounding Preston’s tragic fate. The sentencing for Varley and McGowan-Fazakerley is scheduled for Thursday, marking the conclusion of a harrowing legal process surrounding this heartbreaking case.
