The biological mother of infant Preston Davey has expressed her enduring anger towards Jamie Varley and John McGowan-Fazakerley, labeling them as “monsters” for the sexual abuse that led to Preston’s tragic demise.

Sarah Davey, Preston’s birth mother, emotionally shared her sentiments during a court session, referring to Preston as her cherished “beautiful blue-eyed boy” who she saw as flawless from the moment he entered the world. She lamented that those who were meant to safeguard Preston had failed him, leading to a loss she believes she will never fully recover from.

Varley, a former teacher, was convicted of the murder of the 13-month-old in the context of a sexual assault that occurred on July 27, 2023. His partner, McGowan-Fazakerley, also faces sentencing for his involvement in Preston’s death and a joint sexual assault on the child four days before the fatal incident.

Preston, who was born to convicted felon Sarah Davey, was entrusted to Varley and McGowan-Fazakerley’s care at nine months old in April 2023. Tragically, he suffered severe physical, sexual, and emotional abuse at the hands of Varley, with McGowan-Fazakerley turning a blind eye before participating in a final assault on the child on July 23, ultimately leading to Preston’s untimely death.

The sentencing for Varley and McGowan-Fazakerley is scheduled to take place at Preston Crown Court today, with the judge taking time to deliberate over the appropriate penalties. The court proceedings have been adjourned for further consideration.
