A wealthy banker who was detained in connection with the “Putney Pusher” incident is now facing re-arrest for suspected possession of class-A and class-B drugs. The original case involved a 33-year-old woman being pushed into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge in May 2017 in south-west London. The 44-year-old suspect was initially held at his £1.4 million residence in west London on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, triggered by CCTV footage showing a jogger pushing the victim into the road.

The Metropolitan Police have officially confirmed the suspect’s re-arrest, although he has been released on bail pending further inquiries. A spokesperson from the Met Police stated that the man was taken into custody on June 15 for attempted grievous bodily harm related to the 2017 incident, where the woman was pushed into harm’s way. Subsequently, he was also arrested for alleged possession of Class A and Class B drugs.

Reports indicate that the suspect has a background in the Armed Forces, and the recent arrest followed the emergence of substantial new information. Over 50 individuals have been interviewed in connection with the case, with three of them arrested and subsequently released without charges. The investigation was closed in 2018.

In efforts to identify the suspect, police released CCTV footage from inside the bus involved in the incident, traveling at 12mph. Bus driver Oliver Salbris managed to swerve and avoid hitting the pedestrian at the last moment, preventing a more severe outcome. The victim sustained minor injuries and was assisted by passengers after the bus stopped. Following the incident, the woman tried to approach the jogger who fled the scene but received no acknowledgment.
