A man working as a bartender has won a £3.5 million mansion in Cornwall and celebrated the event by offering free drinks at his pub. Darren Summers, aged 50, was serving drinks when the Omaze team surprised him with the news of his new clifftop property above Downderry Beach. The stunning four-bedroom home features panoramic sea views, an outdoor pool, and a hot tub.
Darren, who acquired his winning ticket for £20 through Omaze, owns a pub in Rhondda Fawr valley, South Wales, while his wife, Rebecca, 36, works as a Healthcare Support Assistant in the NHS. The prize includes a mortgage-free property, covering all legal fees and stamp duty, along with an additional £250,000 cash to assist with settling in.
The couple, residing in a three-bedroom house for the past three years, were astonished by the news. Darren humbly offered free drinks to customers upon hearing about his win. The new mansion spans 3,425 sq ft over two levels, featuring floor-to-ceiling glass doors leading to a seaside dining terrace and a heated pool.
The ground floor comprises an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, a home office, a master bedroom with en suite, and a second bedroom with a shower room. The lower level offers a spacious lounge and two more en suite bedrooms. The property sits on over an acre of land with a pool, hot tub, and a sculpture garden showcasing original artworks.
Excited about their unexpected luck, Darren and Rebecca are looking forward to hosting family and friends at their new home. The win comes as a relief for the couple, who have faced personal losses in recent years. The prize draw was organized in partnership with the Eden Project, aiming to raise funds for environmental initiatives.
Founder and CEO of Omaze, Matt Pohlson, expressed delight over Darren’s win and the charitable contributions made through the draw. The Omaze community has raised over £140 million for various causes in the UK. Entries for the next Omaze Million Pound House Draw in Surrey are now open on omaze.co.uk.
