England’s top supporter, Andy Milne, faced a flood of assistance offers from the United States after his intention to sell his house to finance his World Cup journey was disclosed by the Mirror. However, a compelling offer came his way as he was provided with hotel accommodations before and after England’s matches throughout the tournament. Known as ‘World Cup Guy,’ the 63-year-old former teacher is poised to gain popularity in both countries once the World Cup commences on June 11.
He is set to feature in a promotional video for the Hilton hotel chain alongside England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, former star Ray Parlour, and renowned Lioness Legend Jill Scott. Andy and his best friend will lodge at Hilton hotels near the match venues in the US, with plans for him to be featured in TV commercials sporting the liquid-resistant ‘Three Lidls’ shirt.
To finance his trip, Andy put his second home in Northwich, Cheshire, on the market for £350,000. The estimated expenses for hotel stays, totaling £35,000 for him and his companion, encompass England’s two friendlies in Florida and the entire 39-day World Cup period.
The Hilton’s gesture of providing accommodation has resulted in significant savings for Andy. Besides the hospitality from the Hilton, he received sponsorship offers from prominent brands like Sports Direct, Lidl, various eateries, a cryptocurrency company, and a casino in the US.
Following the extensive media coverage, Andy expressed gratitude for the overwhelming kindness he received, including offers for accommodations and meals from Dallas residents. He emphasized the generosity of Hilton, where he will be residing during his US visit and participating in a television advertisement.
After the tournament, Andy plans to visit his daughter, Laila, in Australia with his wife Achla, as they await the arrival of their first grandchild. In the event of an England victory, he intends to update his recently published memoir, ‘World Cup Guy,’ to encompass this pinnacle moment supporting the national team.
Andy gained widespread recognition during the Qatar tournament when a photo of him celebrating England’s victory over Senegal circulated globally. Stijn Bastiaens, Hilton’s Vice President of Marketing and Loyalty for EMEA, highlighted the hotel’s support for Andy, emphasizing the importance of accommodations for dedicated fans like him.
The story of Andy and his remarkable journey will soon be chronicled in his book, ‘That World Cup Guy,’ available for purchase.
