Dozens of double-decker buses were destroyed in a massive fire that swept through a bus storage yard. Firefighters rushed to the scene on Muckingford Road, Linford, Essex, just before 7 pm on Friday as flames engulfed several parked vehicles. The fire quickly spread among the buses, prompting a significant emergency response.

Fire crews worked for hours to contain the fire, and by 9 pm, the situation was under control, with two fire engines remaining to address hotspots and ensure the area’s safety. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service reported that approximately 36 buses were lost in the blaze.

Station Manager Lee Hurst characterized the incident as “significant and challenging,” praising the efforts of the firefighters, Essex Police, utility providers, and local farmers in containing the fire and preventing further damage.

Following an investigation, officials determined that the fire was deliberately set. Mr. Hurst urged anyone with information on the fire’s origin or who witnessed suspicious activity before the incident to contact FireStoppers anonymously.

Essex Police confirmed their presence at the scene, working with firefighters to investigate the suspected arson incident in Linford. Road closures were in effect during the firefighting operation but were lifted once the situation was under control.

No arrests have been made yet, as detectives pursue various leads. Essex Police encouraged individuals with relevant information to reach out online, through the live chat service, or by calling 101, quoting incident 1206 of June 5.
