An explosion in a popular Italian tourist town resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries as a building collapsed abruptly. The incident occurred in Porto Sant ‘Elpidio when a two-storey structure was struck by a powerful blast believed to have been triggered by a gas leak around 6 am on Saturday.

Emergency responders retrieved the deceased man’s body from the debris after the blast shook the town, with two families present inside the building at the time. Among those impacted were a child, the victim’s elderly parents who received on-site medical attention before being taken to the hospital, and a woman who was airlifted to a nearby hospital in Torrette di Ancona.

Rescue efforts are ongoing as another woman is suspected to be trapped under the wreckage. Firefighters are utilizing drones, dogs, and excavators in a race against time to locate her. The blast completely destroyed the building, causing windows of neighboring shops and structures to shatter, as reported by local news sources.
