The hospital trust is considering transforming the 4C general paediatrics medical ward, which currently provides care to many children with complex conditions, into an extended Paediatric Assessment Unit/Emergency Decision Unit and Same Day Emergency Care Unit.
Approximately 75 staff members, including nurses, healthcare assistants, catering staff, and ward managers, will be reassigned to other areas. The hospital authorities clarified that the ward is not being shut down but rather restructured to enhance the delivery of care, emphasizing a shift towards rapid assessment and same-day emergency care pathways.
However, for individuals like Aliesha Morley, the changes are deeply troubling. Aliesha shared her emotional connection to Ward 4C, where her daughter received critical care for the past two years due to a range of complex needs.
