A tragic incident unfolded at Withernsea, East Yorkshire, where a 15-year-old girl, Grace Keeling, lost her life along with her mother, Sarah Keeling, and a local man, Mark Ratcliffe. The unfortunate event occurred as Grace and her friend were taking photos near the sea, with Mr. Ratcliffe heroically attempting to help when they encountered difficulties.
During the inquest held in Hull, details emerged from Grace’s friend, who had accompanied them on a day trip from Nottinghamshire, along with the Keeling family dog, Lulu. The friend recounted how they were capturing images on the promenade when Grace suddenly disappeared, leading to a series of distressing events.
Despite efforts from Mr. Ratcliffe and Mrs. Keeling to rescue Grace, the rough sea conditions proved overwhelming. Tragically, their bodies were recovered on the same day, while the search for Grace’s remains lasted 13 days until her body was found among boulders used for sea defenses. Several bystanders also attempted to assist during the harrowing incident.
