“Tragic Dorm Fire Claims 15 Lives at Kenyan Boarding School”

An approximate 15 students lost their lives in a devastating fire that swept through a dormitory at a boarding school. The tragic incident occurred at Utumishi Girls’ Academy Senior School in Nakuru county, Kenya, with an unknown number of students sustaining injuries.

Emergency response teams, led by regional police commander Samuel Ndanyi, have been conducting search and rescue operations in the dormitory since the fire broke out around 1 am local time. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.

Expressing deep sorrow, county police official Masoud Mwinyi provided support to distressed parents gathered outside the school. Firefighters and police officers collaborated to extinguish the blaze and evacuate other students, as reported by Capital FM.

In a statement, the Kenya Police Service confirmed the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat’s presence at Utumishi Girls Senior School in Gilgil, Nakuru County, overseeing rescue efforts following the tragic dormitory fire. Several injured students are receiving medical treatment as various emergency teams continue search and support operations.

Efforts are underway to ensure the safety of all students and provide assistance to affected families during this challenging period. This incident recalls a similar tragedy in 2024 when 21 students perished in a fire at a primary boarding school in Nyeri county.
