A body was found during an extensive search for a young man who disappeared after entering a lake in the Swanscombe area of Kent. This incident adds to the ten fatalities in open water across the UK this week.
Kent Police responded to a call on Galley Hill Road in Swanscombe just before 3 pm on Wednesday regarding a swimmer in distress in a pond. Despite the efforts of police, fire, and ambulance teams, the teenager was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The police statement mentioned that the incident occurred at 2:55 pm on Wednesday and involved the recovery of a teenage boy’s body with no suspicion of foul play. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
In separate incidents, a 12-year-old, Junior Slater, went missing while swimming in the River Ribble in Lancashire, and a 15-year-old, Declan Sawyer, lost his life at Swanholme Lakes in Lincoln. Additionally, Reco Puttock passed away after encountering difficulties at Leadbeater Dam in West Yorkshire.
Another tragic event involved the recovery of a teenage girl’s body from Kingsbury Water Park in Warwickshire. Furthermore, a man lost his life at a beach in Cornwall while trying to assist family members in distress in the sea.
The series of water-related deaths occurred amidst the UK’s sweltering heatwave, with temperatures soaring to record levels. On Tuesday, the mercury climbed to 35.1°C, marking the hottest May day on record for England, surpassing the previous day’s record-breaking temperatures.
