Efforts are underway to locate a British woman who has gone missing in Spain after she did not board a ferry back to the UK along with her pet dog. Wendy Iles vanished while returning from the Costa Blanca region, losing contact with her family. Her daughter, Louise, suspects Wendy’s passport was stolen, and her phone has been inactive since.
Concerned family members alerted authorities, including Interpol, after Wendy was last heard from in the Alfafar area near Valencia on Sunday night. Louise mentioned that Wendy seemed confused during their last conversation, and her campervan had been reported stolen.
Louise issued a plea for help, stating that her mother was traveling with her Springer Spaniel in the Silla, Alfafar, and Russafa areas south of Valencia, en route to catch a ferry from Caen to the UK, but she did not make the journey on May 23.
Described as 5ft tall, Wendy was accompanied by her Springer Spaniel. Louise urged anyone with information to come forward and utilized online expat forums to reach out for assistance.
Responding to queries on an expat forum regarding the stolen vehicle, Louise clarified based on her last conversation with Wendy, where Wendy reported the vehicle as stolen.
In a later update, Louise sought assistance from anyone with connections in Spain to help locate her mother in the Valencia region, expressing frustration over the challenges in tracing Wendy’s movements.
Louise highlighted the delays in investigations, stating that British authorities require Wendy to be classified as high-risk before tracking her bank transactions, while Spanish police demand 48 hours to initiate a search.
Concerns heightened as Wendy appeared disoriented during her last contact and failed to reach a suggested hotel while resolving camper van issues.
The Iles family appeals for information as Wendy’s whereabouts remain unknown.
The UK Foreign Office has been contacted for input on the matter.
