Two teenagers were interrogated by authorities following the tragic discovery of an 11-year-old boy found deceased near a river with a damp towel wrapped around his neck. The boy’s lifeless body was located on the bank of the Vilaine River in Rennes, France, after a fisherman heard distress calls from a child around 4:40 pm on Sunday. Despite prompt emergency response, the boy could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In response to the incident, French law enforcement initiated a murder investigation which led to the arrest of a 16-year-old boy at his residence and a 15-year-old girl who surrendered at a police station, as confirmed by Rennes prosecutor Frederic Teillet. The two suspects were the individuals last seen with the victim before the tragic event and are currently in custody facing charges of murdering a minor.
Clarification was made by Teillet that the victim was 11 years old, contrary to the initial report of 12 years old. Reports indicate that the boy’s mother was searching for him while he was supposedly fishing with a friend in the area where the distressing event occurred. The incident unfolded in a wooded region beneath the bridge over the Vilaine River, near several apartment buildings.
The relationship between the three children remains unclear, and the ongoing investigation has been assumed by the specialized crime division.
