A man who won a large sum of money in the EuroMillions lottery recently took his first driving lesson in a luxury sports car. Darren Howard, a resident of Stevenage, experienced a life-changing event when he won £1 million in April. His top priority after the win was learning to drive, and he chose to do so in a McLaren 570GT4, a high-performance vehicle valued at around £150,000.
Previously reliant on others for transportation, the father of one found humor in the situation as he sat behind the wheel of the supercar for his inaugural driving lesson. Beyond the excitement of driving the high-end car, Darren, aged 43, emphasized that obtaining a driver’s license would grant him newfound independence for his job and quality time with his son.
Expressing his astonishment, Darren shared, “It’s surreal—I’m a Formula One enthusiast, yet I couldn’t drive, and now I’m learning in a supercar. Driving symbolizes a lot to me. It opens up more job prospects, allows me to be my own boss, and, most importantly, enables me to embark on adventures with my son.”
Following his lottery windfall, Darren was eager to share the news with his 68-year-old father, who was among the first to learn of his son’s victory. Recalling the moment, Darren humorously recounted, “I’m currently staying with my parents, and when my dad walked into the kitchen at 6.30 am, I greeted him with ‘How does it feel to have a millionaire son?’ His initial reaction was a mix of surprise and jest as he jokingly expressed his dismay at being beaten to the win.”
Looking ahead, Darren highlighted his priorities of family and stability. He plans to show appreciation to his parents for their unwavering support and intends to purchase a permanent residence for himself and his son. Additionally, he envisions acquiring a new work vehicle, securing passports, and treating his son to an elaborate Disney World experience in Florida.
While many individuals typically learn to drive in conventional vehicles, Darren expressed contentment with his unique first driving experience. “Having my first lesson in a supercar is definitely a memorable way to mark becoming a millionaire!” he remarked. Darren participated in the EuroMillions draw on April 17, 2026, and successfully matched the UK Millionaire Maker code, securing the £1 million prize.
