The Met Office has issued a warning that eight regions across the UK are expected to experience temperatures reaching up to 35C on Tuesday.
Following a record-breaking heatwave in May, particularly impacting the southern regions over the recent bank holiday weekend, the national weather service has forecasted continued high temperatures. On Monday, the UK saw its highest May temperature ever recorded at 33.5C in Heathrow, which was later surpassed by a reading of 34.8C at Kew Gardens in London.
The Met Office stated that Tuesday will bring another scorching day with temperatures rapidly climbing in the morning. A peak of 35C is anticipated in London, the Home Counties, and Cambridgeshire. Additionally, temperatures exceeding 30C are expected across eastern Wales and eastern, southern, and central England, excluding coastal areas.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued amber heat-health alerts for five English regions, cautioning about increased strains on health and social care services. The agency highlighted the risk of elevated mortality rates, particularly among individuals aged 65 and above or those with underlying health issues.
Looking ahead, the Met Office predicts the heatwave to persist throughout the week, with temperatures forecasted to reach 31C on Wednesday, 30C on Thursday, 27C on Friday, and 28C on Saturday.
