The Canary Islands government has issued a warning about high temperatures across the archipelago, signaling a heatwave expected tomorrow. Temperatures in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote could soar to 37C or higher, particularly in the inland regions of the southern half of the islands.
Residents are advised to seek shelter in shaded areas and avoid consuming alcoholic beverages during the extreme heat. The official pre-alert for maximum temperatures, issued by the General Directorate of Emergencies, will be in effect from 11am tomorrow.
In Gran Canaria, temperatures may surpass 34C in the inland areas and southern slopes, especially those facing south and west. Similarly, Tenerife and La Gomera could experience temperatures exceeding 32C, especially on the south-facing slopes and midlands.
The public in the Canary Islands is urged to adhere to the self-protection guidelines provided by the General Directorate of Emergencies. El Hierro and La Palma are expected to see temperatures reaching 30C or higher, with the highest heat levels anticipated on the peaks of the northeast of El Hierro and the western slope of La Palma.
Meanwhile, in the UK, the Met Office has forecast temperatures to reach 33C over the Bank Holiday weekend, marking a heatwave sweeping across the country. The Met Office predicts record-breaking temperatures for the Bank Holiday weekend, with expected temperatures to exceed the current May record of 32.8C, potentially reaching at least 33C on Monday.
