Esther Ghey and Jane Coates share a tragic connection as mothers who lost their daughters to senseless violence. Esther’s 16-year-old daughter, Brianna Ghey, was tragically murdered by two teenagers, while Jane’s 23-year-old daughter, Lucy Harrison, was fatally shot by her father. Despite the heart-wrenching losses, the two mothers found solace in each other’s support and have joined forces to advocate for youth safety.

Expressing their profound bond, Esther, 39, shared, “Brianna and Lucy have brought us together in a way that feels destined. Our friendship allows us to openly share our grief and experiences on a profound level.” Jane, 49, added, “Esther has been my rock, offering unspoken understanding and guidance through this unimaginable journey of grief.”

The tragic incident that solidified their friendship was Lucy’s untimely death in Texas, where her father accidentally shot her. Esther and Jane’s bond deepened as they reached out to each other for support during this difficult time.

Although Brianna and Lucy never met, Esther feels a strong spiritual connection between them. She shared, “I often feel Brianna’s presence, especially in her room where I now work. There are moments when I sense Lucy and Brianna together, guiding us towards unity.”

Jane resonates with this sentiment, believing that their daughters’ spirits continue to influence their lives positively. She expressed, “It feels like Lucy and Brianna are watching over us, guiding us in our shared mission for change.”

Following Brianna’s tragic death in 2023, Esther has dedicated herself to promoting youth safety through mindfulness initiatives. Meanwhile, Jane, as a deputy head of a primary school, has aligned with Esther’s cause, implementing mindfulness training for teachers and students to enhance well-being.

Reflecting on their shared purpose, Jane expressed gratitude for Esther’s friendship and the opportunity to reignite her passion for advocacy despite the depths of grief. She emphasized their approach of advocating for change with compassion and integrity.

The devastating loss of their daughters has united Esther and Jane in a mission to create a safer world for young people, honoring the memories of Brianna and Lucy through their shared commitment to positive change.
