A recent survey conducted by Isuzu UK revealed the top-rated service stations along Britain’s motorways, highlighting the crucial role these facilities play in providing comfort and convenience to drivers. Gloucester Services, situated on the M5 and operated in collaboration with the Gloucestershire Gateway Trust, secured the top spot with its emphasis on high-quality food sourced from local suppliers within a 30-mile radius. Following closely behind was Tebay Services on the M6, known for its support of local farmers and producers through its farm shop and kitchen.
Other notable service stations that made the list included Beaconsfield Services on the M40, praised for its picturesque lakeside terrace, and Wetherby Services in West Yorkshire, offering amenities like a dog walking area and EV superhub. The survey also highlighted the growing importance of service stations in travel planning, with drivers visiting an average of 25 stations per year and strategically incorporating stops into their journeys.
EV drivers, in particular, were found to spend the most time at service stations waiting for their vehicles to charge. However, some expressed frustration over the availability of charging points, indicating room for improvement in infrastructure. The research underscored the significance of service stations in shaping overall travel experiences, with nearly half of respondents admitting they would leave a station that failed to meet their expectations.
George Wallis, Head of Marketing at Isuzu UK, emphasized the value of these service stations in supporting drivers across various terrains, from motorways to rural landscapes. The survey results shed light on the evolving landscape of service station preferences and the impact of these rest stops on the overall travel experience.
