Buckingham Palace is actively cooperating with police inquiries related to allegations of former Prince Andrew’s involvement in public office misconduct. Detectives from Thames Valley Police have sought access to visitor logs at royal properties associated with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, as well as records of his Private Protection Officers’ (PPOs) shifts between 2001 and 2010.
The investigation has expanded to include sexual misconduct allegations within the initial probe of potential public office misconduct. Andrew, who served as the UK’s special representative for international trade and investment from 2001 to 2011, has refuted any wrongdoing concerning his association with Jeffrey Epstein.
Amid Andrew’s arrest and extensive interrogation for alleged public office misconduct, King Charles expressed deep concern and affirmed full support for the ongoing investigation. The monarch disassociated Andrew from royal titles and privileges last year due to the scandal surrounding his ties with Epstein.
Searches have been conducted at Andrew’s former Royal Lodge in Windsor and current residence on the Sandringham estate. Detectives are reviewing recovered evidence and have requested information from the US Department of Justice regarding the Epstein files.
The investigation’s complexity includes determining Andrew’s status as a public office holder during the period in question. Thames Valley Police have urged potential victims and witnesses to come forward. Notably, a non-British woman alleges that Epstein arranged for her to meet Andrew in 2010, and detectives are keen to speak with her at her convenience.
Previous accusations against Andrew by Virginia Giuffre, who tragically passed away last year, have heightened scrutiny on his conduct. The legal definition of public office misconduct encompasses various behaviors beyond information sharing, and police aim to clarify the scope of their inquiry.
Buckingham Palace has refrained from providing comments on the matter, emphasizing the sensitivity and thoroughness of the ongoing investigation.
