A 16-year-old boy tragically passed away shortly after consuming ice cream with his friends. Adriano D’Orsi and two companions visited their regular ice cream parlor after a night out on Saturday, May 16. The teenager began experiencing severe respiratory symptoms after eating some gelato. Seeking help from his friends, Adriano was swiftly taken to his father Mauro D’Orsi’s residence.
Despite his father’s efforts to save him using cortisone, an allergy-relief treatment, it proved ineffective. By the time emergency services reached Casoria, Italy, Adriano was unconscious, and resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
Adriano, who had a severe milk protein allergy, suffered an anaphylactic shock. His family stated that he was always cautious with his diet to avoid milk products.
Although the 16-year-old supposedly consumed dairy-free fruit ice cream, traces of milk may have contaminated it through the scoop or ice cream machine.
His mother, Antonietta Esposito, shared with local media: “Since childhood, he had unexplained episodes until we discovered his allergy through tests. Adriano was meticulous in reading labels before eating and rarely made errors.”
Police confiscated multiple ice cream tubs from the gelateria for an ongoing inquiry. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of Adriano’s death. He was a third-year student at the nautical institute in Bagnoli with aspirations of becoming a ship captain.
In an emotional tribute, his mother Antonietta expressed, “He had clear aspirations for his future. He would often say, ‘Mum, in two years, I’ll take you on a world tour,’ but now, all those dreams are shattered. Adriano was an exceptional son, a mother’s dream come true, and I was fortunate to have him.”
