At least eight individuals lost their lives in a tragic incident as a train collided with a bus near a bustling airport in Bangkok, Thailand, today. The collision occurred at a level-crossing beneath the Makkasan station where a monorail transports numerous tourists to the airport regularly.
Authorities reported that the accident took place at the intersection of Asok-Din Daeng Road and the railway line around 3:40 pm local time on Saturday. Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene, extinguishing the blaze by 3:59 pm and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.
Videos captured the chaotic scene showing a car and a large public transport bus engulfed in flames, with onlookers rushing to move a second car to safety. Several motorcycles were strewn across the area.
Emergency responders on-site initially confirmed six fatalities, which later escalated to eight. Multiple others sustained injuries in the collision. Witnesses mentioned hearing small explosions following the crash. Authorities are yet to determine the exact number of casualties and the cause of the tragic incident.
