According to Chinese state media, the Chinese Foreign Ministry reported that Trump and Xi engaged in extensive discussions on critical issues affecting both countries and the global landscape, reaching several agreements during their Thursday meeting.
The Trump administration expressed satisfaction with the bilateral talks, emphasizing the positive nature of discussions and the focus on augmenting economic ties between the two nations. The White House released an official statement highlighting the emphasis on economic cooperation, market access for American businesses in China, Chinese investment in American industries, and collaborative efforts on issues like fentanyl precursors and agricultural trade.
Regarding Iran, Trump noted a convergence of views between the US and China on the Iran conflict. He underscored successful resolutions of various challenges and praised the ability to address issues that others might have found insurmountable.
On the Taiwan question, Chinese officials disclosed that President Xi cautioned Trump about the implications of mishandling Taiwan, emphasizing the potential risks to the overall bilateral relationship. The US continues to maintain a policy, as articulated by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, of not supporting Taiwan independence.
As Trump departed Beijing aboard Air Force One, he reiterated the shared stance on Iran with China, emphasizing the mutual desire to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and the importance of ensuring open access to the Straits.
