The family of a young woman battling anorexia is deeply concerned that she is being discharged from the hospital with what they fear is a fatal outcome looming.
Caitlin Mackay is currently in critical condition following a collapse at the Eating Disorder Services facility in Inverness, Scotland. She was swiftly taken to Raigmore Hospital, where her condition was classified as life-threatening.
Medical staff have been administering nutrition through a nasogastric tube and have detected visible heart damage attributed to years of malnutrition. Despite the seriousness of Caitlin’s situation, her family is worried that she may be released early next week.
Hollie, Caitlin’s older sister, recounted the distressing incident when Caitlin’s health deteriorated while medical staff were trying to draw blood samples. Expressing frustration and disbelief, Hollie criticized the decision to discharge Caitlin despite her critical condition.
The family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to secure specialized private treatment for Caitlin, as they believe the current healthcare system may not be equipped to handle her needs adequately.
Caitlin’s family, including her parents Mandy and Dougie, perceives her discharge without intensive inpatient care as a potential death sentence.
