The issue of subscription traps has been a long-standing concern in discussions over the years.

After extensive consultations, the enactment of a new law, and subsequent deliberations on its implementation, we now have new regulations safeguarding consumers when they subscribe to services – a significant development!

As per the Department for Business and Trade, the anticipated savings from cracking down on businesses exploiting consumers through ongoing service subscriptions, whether through intentional actions or deception, amount to a substantial £400 million annually.

Kate Dearden, the Minister for Consumer Protection, emphasized, “Losing hard-earned money due to forgotten subscriptions is incredibly frustrating.

“These novel regulations will empower consumers to manage their finances effectively by ensuring subscription terms are transparent, equitable, and easily terminable.”

How exactly do subscription traps operate, and what do these fresh guidelines entail? Here is a comprehensive overview.
