The fire broke out around 2:44 pm, prompting a quick response with two fire engines and one aerial appliance on the scene by 2:49 pm. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the source of the fire on the balcony at the top of the tower. The building was swiftly evacuated as crews battled the electrical fire.
Visitors, including a group of women from Tennessee, were disappointed as their plans to tour the cathedral were disrupted by the incident. However, they expressed hope that the fire was minor to prevent any significant damage. Despite the closure, they look forward to revisiting the cathedral on a future trip to the city.
A statement released by Liverpool Cathedral’s official account mentioned the closure due to an “ongoing incident.” The area around the cathedral has been cordoned off, and the fire service continues to work on isolating utilities and ensuring safety at the scene.
