A young drug dealer has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a teenage rival during a drug turf battle. Leon Bangura, 21, fatally stabbed Kalvin Taylor, 19, with a large knife in Norwich. The victim, a member of the “Batman” gang, was attacked by Bangura from the rival “Lenny” gang. In an emotional statement, Taylor’s grandmother expressed unforgiveness towards the killer, stating the impact of the loss on the family.
The court learned that Taylor was initially a bright student but fell into bad influence as he grew older. Despite this, his grandmother cherished having him in their lives and expressed regret over not being able to protect him. The judge ruled the murder was done for personal gain, pointing out that Bangura intended to rob the victim of drugs and money.
Bangura was convicted of murder after a trial and received a life sentence. His defense acknowledged the tragedy but highlighted his troubled background and involvement with drugs. The court also found Bangura guilty of drug-related charges and possession of a weapon. The incident was attributed to ongoing conflicts between drug gangs.
During the trial, Bangura claimed self-defense, alleging that he feared for his life when he saw Taylor with a knife. His co-defendants were acquitted of murder charges. Following the sentencing, a police detective commended Taylor’s family for their strength and thanked all involved in the investigation for their dedication to justice.
